The Consumer Electronics Association has decided that ultra-high-definition displays, also known as 4K television sets for their higher resolution, will be officially known as Ultra HD. Such TVs and projectors must have 3,840 horizontal and 2,160 vertical pixels, with an aspect ratio of at least 16:9. “Ultra HD is the next natural step forward in display technologies, offering consumers an incredibly immersive viewing experience with outstanding new levels of picture quality. This new terminology and the recommended attributes will help consumers navigate the marketplace to find the TV that best meets their needs,” said Gary Shapiro, CEA’s president and CEO, in a statement.
